The word Kailasa, which is also Kailash Kher’s band’s name, means ‘heavenly’ in Sanskrit. The singer revealed this to us, but he wasn’t just talking about his band. Kailash has recently had a heavenly experience when he visited Srinagar to shoot his music video. “We all think that there are so many problems there, but everything is so normal and naturally beautiful there,” says Kailash. The shoot took place at Dal Lake, which according to him, is a ‘water world’. “Paani mein hi market hai, sab kuch usmein hi milta hai. The raw beauty of Srinagar has been captured in the video,” he adds.

The reason he chose to shoot the video there, says Kailash, was because the sound of the song demanded it. “The song Yadaan Teriyaan is a very simple yet intense song; it’s a song that will resonate with lovers,” he says. The song is part of Kailash’s fourth album Kailasa Rangeele, which is set to release soon. “We have already made videos of two other songs Rangeele and Tu Kya Jaane. For the song Katha Gaan, we’re planning to ask students of mass media to make music videos and post them on our website. The video that gets the maximum ‘likes’ will be declared the official video of the song,” he reveals.

The singer, who formed his band Kailasa in 2004 along with musicians Paresh and Naresh Kamat, believes in doing things differently. He is thankful that all their albums have been successfully recieved. Personal egos exist, he says, but they have never come in the way of the bandmembers. “The tuning that we share is amazing. And for us, work is above everything else. That’s the reason Kailasa has been intact for so many years,” he adds.
Apart from their upcoming album, Kailash has also sung a couple of songs for Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, Gali Gali Mein Chor Hai and others. So there’s lots to look forward to from the singer this year? Kailash says in his trademark humour, “Bahot maal hai!” Those three words certainly spell good news for his fans!
